About Five

Five is a daily five-letter word puzzle in the tradition Wordle made famous. Once a day there is one hidden word, the same for every player in the world, and you have six guesses to find it. After each guess the tiles grade themselves: green for the right letter in the right place, yellow for a letter that's in the word but somewhere else, grey for a letter that isn't in it at all.

Because everyone plays the same word, Five is really two games: the puzzle, and the comparing of notes afterward. Solve it, share the little colored grid without spoiling the answer, and keep the streak alive — a fresh word arrives every day, and the countdown to the next one is always ticking.

How to play

Hard mode

Turn on hard mode before your first guess and the clues become binding: any green letter must stay in its spot in later guesses, and letters the board has confirmed can't be dropped. It removes the classic technique of burning a guess purely to test fresh letters — which is exactly why people who like it like it.

Strategy

Tip: Open with a word rich in common vowels and consonants — something like crane or slate — to light up the board fast.

Five FAQ

Is Five's daily word the same for everyone?

Yes — everyone in the world gets the same word on the same day, which is what makes results comparable. It's also why there's exactly one puzzle per day.

When does the next puzzle arrive?

A new word unlocks every day. The in-game countdown shows exactly how long is left on the current one.

What does hard mode change?

Later guesses must respect what you've learned: green letters must stay in their spots and confirmed letters can't be dropped. You can only switch it on before your first guess.

Are my streak and stats saved?

Yes — games played, win rate, and current and best streaks are stored locally in your browser. No account needed; clearing site data resets them.
